The Associate in Applied Science in Technical Studies provides students with education and training for entry-level positions in established and emerging business and industry jobs with family-sustaining wages. The program boasts a robust curriculum, including core essential professional skills and knowledge, core technical studies skills and knowledge, and opportunities to pursue one of three occupational specializations: e-commerce, energy technologies, or career and technical education.
Students with documented work experience, non-credit workforce development training, career and technical education center training, and/or current valid industry-recognized credentials equivalent to the knowledge, skills, and abilities obtained through successful completion of specific program coursework may be eligible for prior learning assessment credit meeting some program requirements. College credit may be awarded for on-the-job training and/or supervised work-based learning. Learning opportunities fulfilling some program requirements may be available through cooperation with various third-party providers or local career and technical education centers. Students matriculating into the College after successfully completing an occupational specialization at a career and technical education center may be eligible to pursue the career and technical education specialization through prior learning credit.
Purpose
The Associate in Applied Science is designed as a non-transfer program for students pursuing education and training in essential professional skills and knowledge, technical studies skills and knowledge, and an occupational specialization. The program is designed to provide students with essential professional and technical competencies necessary for employment in a variety of occupations.
Program Level Outcomes:
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically and creatively.
- Identify and apply analytical reasoning across academic disciplines.
- Demonstrate the specialized training and experience derived from the student’s professional and technical coursework.
- Recognize and relate to literature and the arts, diversity, historical viewpoints, and global perspectives.

Complete the requirements for one of the Occupational Specializations: E-Commerce (22-24 credit hours) - IT 145 , IT 147 , IT 155 , IT 156 , MK 267 , MK 270 , MK 274 , Restricted Elective(s): Any Business (BU), Computer Information Systems (CS), Entrepreneurship (EP), Information Technology (IT), Management (MG), or Marketing (MK) course(s) not already required by the program. Energy Technologies (20-22 credit hours) - CL 110, CL 115, CL 120, EG 103, EG 105, LM 100, LM 101, LM 104, LM 201, LM 203, MN 102, MN 104, MN 109, ST 102, WL 100, WL 102, WL 104, Restricted Elective(s): Any Engineering (EG) Entrepreneurship (EP), Machining (MC), Mechatronics (MX), Mine Management (MN), Surveying (SU), or Welding (WL) course(s) not already required by the program.
