Associate in Arts - Education

The Associate in Arts, Education is a specialized transfer degree for students interested in pursuing a teaching career in elementary, middle, high school, or special education.  Students will need to continue their education for credentialing at a four-year university.  Students in this program take general education courses and courses in education theory and practice and perform field observations which are required for successful transfer.  Students are introduced to the foundations of education, organization, structure of school systems, methods of teaching children, providing inclusive education, and effective teaching techniques.

Licensed educators can work as adult basic, secondary education, ESL teachers, career and technical education teachers, high school teachers, instructional coordinators, elementary school teachers, middle school teachers, postsecondary teachers, preschool teachers, special education teachers, teacher assistants, or substitute teachers.  Overall, employment in education is projected to grow seven percent from 2021-2031.  In addition to new jobs, from growth, opportunities arise from the need to replace workers who leave the occupation.
