EM 114 - Pre-Hospital Pharmacology I

3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: Current and valid National Registry EMT-B Card
Lecture Hrs. 3

This course will focus on the skill necessary for safe and therapeutic drug therapy for advanced pre-hospital providers. Emphasis is placed on drug identification and classification, pharmacological actions, side effects, appropriate dosing, drug interactions, guideline for use of drugs, safety alerts, and pre-hospital implications, medication administration, drug
calculations, as well as the legal and ethical considerations of pharmacology. This course will also discuss pharmacokinetic principles as it relates to physiologic and pathophysiologic problems across the lifespan. Advanced EMS Provider Skills labs and Clinical I will run concurrently with this course. Proficiency skills will be assessed accordingly and recorded in the student’s Master Portfolio.
