Medical Assisting, A.A.S.

Purpose

The Medical Assisting Program strives to meet the needs of the community by educating students in this health care field. The student will be prepared for the workforce in the ambulatory care setting. The medical assisting student will perform administrative and clinical procedures.

The full Medical Assisting Program is available on the Boone/Lincoln and Williamson campuses. The Logan and Wyoming/McDowell campuses offer the general education/program support courses only.

Program Level Outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to skillfully perform and document routine clinical procedures.
  2. Students will perform and document routine administrative procedures
  3. Students will Communicate effectively, uphold legal, and ethical standards, and confidentiality for patient privacy.
  4. Students will use critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  5. Students will evaluate the importance of professional growth and development
  6. Students will collect, process and test diagnostic specimens
  7. Students will maintain industry standards of quality control and safety principles in the workplace.

~ Designates courses on the statewide Core Coursework Transfer Agreement.

This degree program provides students the opportunity to receive credit for their high school EDGE courses (http://careertech.k12.wv.us/edge/edgeCollege.html) as designated by the (E) within the program sequence.

Clinicals are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday scheduled both day and evening hours, therefore, no additional courses may be taken on those days unless the course is an online course.
