Purpose

The Information Technology Certificate Program was developed for career-oriented individuals who seek entry-level positions in IT tech support industries. It is designed to provide a thorough background in computer technology, basic troubleshooting and repair, and an introduction to networking concepts.

The full Information Technology Certificate Program is available on the Logan Campus. The Boone/Lincoln, Williamson, and Wyoming/ McDowell campuses offer the general education/program support courses only.

Program Level Outcomes:

  1. Discuss and evaluate potential technology related ethical dilemmas and apply decision-making techniques to resolve them.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in selecting, implementing, and operating information technology solutions to meet project requirements.
  3. Apply essential IT support skills in order to install, configure, secure, and troubleshoot operating systems, programs, networks, and pc hardware.
  4. Prepared to take and pass industry standard certification exams.
  5. Develop the ability to use oral and written communication effectively with clients and other industry professionals.
  6. Engage in teams to develop and/or implement IT-based project solutions.

¹Any Information Technology (IT) course not already specified in the program may be used to fulfill the elective requirement.

This degree program provides students the opportunity to receive credit for their high school EDGE courses (http://careertech.k12.wv.us/edge/edgeCollege.html) as designated by the (E) within the program sequence.
